The Reverberation Room provides a noise source from all angles through a test window to a semi-anechoic area. This enables the insulation of, for example, a dash panel, to be measured through the analysis of sound intensity of pressure.

The prime use of this test facility is for measuring the sound absorption of materials by measuring the decay rate of sound. This enables us to identify the qualities and acoustic properties of various materials. It is also used for measuring the sound power output of appliances such as vacuum cleaners and washing machines. The Apamat is a laboratory scaled apparatus for measuring transmission loss on relatively small samples. This dedicated automotive testing facility is used as a standard method by major automotive manufacturers to measure the sound insulation properties of acoustic materials.

A combination of powerful dual channel instrumentation and PC-based software enables comprehensive on-site or remote testing. The software allows a broad range of frequency analysis from 1/3 to 96th octive and FFT Zoom analysis. Advanced signal processing software enables analysis and display of spectrum against time or engine speed, all at high resolution. This is a method for measuring the sound power emitted by machinery to enable the pin-pointing of exact sources of noise around a particular piece of equipment. It measures the quantity and direction of the sound energy from machinery, appliances or surfaces - enabling the most effective acoustic treatment to be devised.
